Deleting Your Koup Account

This is the fastest route and completes straight away. You will be asked to confirm before anything is removed.

• iPhone / Android: open Settings from your profile, scroll to Danger Zone, and tap Delete account.
• Web (koup.ca): open Settings, go to the Account tab, and use Delete account at the bottom.

If you cannot sign in — for example you have lost access to your student email, or your device — write to privacy@koup.ca from the email address on the account, or tell us the account's username and registered email so we can locate it.

We will acknowledge your request within 5 business days and complete it within 30 calendar days, as required under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). We may need to verify your identity first — this protects you from someone else deleting your account.

Deleting your account removes your login and everything attached to it. This happens immediately, not on a schedule:

• Your login credentials and authentication data, including any two-factor setup;
• Your profile — name, username, biography, date of birth, program, year of study, interests, and profile photograph;
• Your posts and content across The Chirp, FlyBy, Market listings, Nest Finder profile, event submissions and organizer updates, course reviews, polls, comments, reactions, and saved items;
• Your notifications, notification history, settings, and push notification tokens;
• Your uploaded files — profile photos, listing images, campus photos, highlight covers, event banners, and roommate profile images; and
• Your friend connections, follows, matches, and blocked-user list.

Two things deliberately survive deletion. We would rather state this plainly than let you discover it later:

• Messages you sent in conversations. Direct and group messages stay in the other participants' chats, along with any files shared in those conversations. A conversation belongs to everyone in it — removing one side would silently rewrite other people's message history. Your name and photo no longer appear beside them; the sender shows as an unknown user.
• Records we are required to keep. Where we are legally obliged to retain something — for example moderation and safety records, or material under an active investigation or legal hold — we keep the minimum necessary for that purpose only.

Residual copies may also persist briefly in encrypted backup archives and are overwritten through normal backup rotation.

Deletion is irreversible, so export first if you want to keep anything. Write to privacy@koup.ca with your full name, registered email address, and username, and we will provide your information in a machine-readable format (such as JSON or CSV) within 30 calendar days.
